Casting Molds, Dies and Tooling

Our high-end product quality and performance of our carbon and graphite materials offers the most economical solutions to customer applications. Some of the more common applications are in the manufacture of crucibles and molds, graphite heating elements, heat treating furnace fixtruing, chemical processing equipment, molten metal extrusion, pressure casting, vertical and horizontal continuous casting, centrifugal casting, graphite susceptors, heat shields and furnace linings.

Our graphite materials offer economical and customized solutions for your most extreme applications and offer resistance to thermal shock, low CTE and excellent thermal conductivity.

Graphite is also widely used as electrode material in electrical discharge machining (EDM), and compared to copper, graphite allows a significant reduction in production costs while providing equal or even better product quality.

Our group offers a wide range of product grades for EDM electrodes throughout the entire processing chain of manufacturing molding and forging tools. Their capacities extend from high roughing rates to ultra fine finishing.

  • Furnace components for manufacturing high performance ceramics

Ferrous Metallurgy & Continuous Casting Technology

In view of the various demands on specialty graphites used for continuous casting, we have developed special graphite grades to meet the specific requirements of the different applications.

Due to the high thermal conductivity of graphite, there is a risk of "chilling in" at the edges of rectangular or square sections of cast iron. To avoid these undesirable and extremely hard structures, the corner strips of split molds are made of carbon grades with low thermal conductivity. Thus, the cooling process at these critical points is delayed.

  • Large sized blanks and graphite dies for continuous casting of stainless steel and grey iron
  • Electric heating elements, holders and contacts for vacuum steel degassing systems
  • Graphite Crucibles for gas analysis of metals

The energy efficiency and lifetime of cathodes are major factors governing the cost-effectiveness of the aluminum production process.

Our comprehensive product range provides the ideal solution for all primary aluminum production technologies. Along with the leading aluminum producers, we develop new products, reduce power consumption in aluminum cells and extend the lifetime of our cathodes.

Medical Technology

The demands placed in medical technology are very high; they concern the quality of the materials used, hygiene, reliability and the precision of the products.

Our group produces components from carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) for radio technology. The low X-ray absorption levels of CFRP make it possible to work with a low X-ray intensity.

Owing to its excellent properties, graphite is also used for the manufacture of the rotating anodes used in X-ray tubes. The high quality standard of the graphite and consistency in its mechanical properties make us a reliable supplier.

  • Graphite discs as heat sinks for X-ray anodes
  • Dental crucibles for melting precious metal alloys
  • Operating materials for manufacturing of mechanical heart valves

Wind Energy Technology

Carbon fiber materials are used to reinforce the rotor blades of wind turbines and to provide key components for fuel cells. High purity graphites and insulation materials are produced for the manufacture of polysilicium for photovoltaic solar cells. In addition, expanded graphites can also be used for highly efficient thermal storage. For energy storage and conversion we develop innovative products and solutions in our laboratory, such as materials based on carbonized sea grass for super-capacitors.

Engineering services ranging from component development to qualification tests can also be provided.

To fulfil the special requirements on finished parts, we use state-of-the-art technology for our machining work in order to meet the high quality both for precision and purity.

  • Carbon Fiber Composite material for wind mill blades.

Solar Technology

Renewable energy is an indispensable part of the energy mix of the future. Solar energy plays a key role here because the potential of the sun as a source of energy is almost unlimited.

Our products made from high-purity fine-grain graphite and carbon fiber-reinforced carbon allow the production of both silicon and solar wafers and cells. As a long-standing supplier and development partner, we make a key contribution to product and technology innovations in the photovoltaic sector.

Crucibles and Molds for Processing Solar Silicon

In the manufacture of solar silicon preproducts, the crucibles, boats and various other molds and heating systems used in different processes are made from graphite or carbon fiber-reinforced carbon (C/C), sometimes in very large dimensions. To comply with dimensional requirements, large-size extruded graphite materials are used as well.

Coating Carriers for Solar Technology

Key requirements to ensure a long service life for PECVD carriers are high mechanical strength and purity, as well as a dense material structure to minimize plasma erosion.

Our group has developed graphite materials that meet these requirements. All commonly used carrier types are available with a high surface quality and evenness and/or a roughened surface as specified.

On request, the carrier can be supplied with pyrographite or silicon carbide coating. Large C/C carriers are frequently needed in solar cell production. Graphite plates of high purity are needed for special systems.
